Description

At the Conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

·  Identify the key provisions of the Louisa Carman Medical Debt Relief Act, including the definitions of “medical debt,” “collection actions,” and the legal limitations imposed on reporting and collecting medical debt in New Jersey.

·  Explain the obligations of healthcare providers and medical creditors under the new law, including requirements for offering reasonable payment plans, restrictions on initiating collection actions, and rules governing communication with patients during appeals or pending insurance reviews.

·  Evaluate how compliance with the law impacts clinical practice, patient communication, and ethical billing procedures, and apply best practices to ensure legal and regulatory adherence while supporting patients with financial hardship.
